It used to be that a piano was a piano -- big or small, upright or grand, it was still a piano. But since the advent of elecrtonic instruments and sampling devices, a piano can be a variety of things -- from 'acoustic' -- meaning a wood box with keys and action and a resonating chamber -- to 'electronic' -- meaning it gets it's power electronically as as opposed to manually -- to 'digital' -- which means that all the sounds are a combination of 1's and 0's -- all pitch, all tone color, everything. But you don't need to know any of that to enjoy a piano -- all you have to do is buy a good one and start enjoying.
